At least 27 individuals sustained injuries following a collision between two trams in Germany. Numerous individuals were treated after the incident in Düsseldorf, as reported by local German media. Police are conducting an investigation into the crash, which involved two carriages carrying approximately 60 passengers in total.
Emergency services responded to the collision, with the fire department confirming treatment for the injured individuals and 28 others who escaped unharmed. Among the casualties, five individuals are reported to have suffered severe injuries. The collision occurred around 11:30 am on a Saturday at the intersection of Berliner Allee and Graf-Adolf-Straße (Friedrichstadt) while many residents were enjoying their weekend in the lively city.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident, with reports suggesting that one of the trams was on the wrong track at the time of impact. It is speculated that a misaligned switch on the tram’s rail network could have led to the head-on collision, according to local news sources.
Fortunately, the fire department stated that none of the individuals removed from the tracks suffered life-threatening injuries. Technical rescue operations were deemed unnecessary, as most passengers managed to extricate themselves from the tram cars. The Rheinbahn tram network spokeswoman mentioned that tram services are being rerouted over a wide area while cleanup efforts continue at the crash scene.
