Multiple individuals sustained injuries following a collision between two trams that resulted in their derailment in Germany. The incident occurred shortly before midday on Thursday in the Linden-Süd district of Hanover, prompting a significant emergency response involving firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement.
The impact of the collision caused both trams to derail, with one tram carriage being thrown onto an elevated platform, causing structural damage. Emergency teams swiftly arrived at the scene, responding to the incident declared as a ‘MANV 10’ mass casualty event, initiating a large-scale rescue mission.
Approximately 20 passengers remained aboard one of the trams post-crash, though authorities confirmed that no individuals were trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters established temporary exits to facilitate passenger evacuation, while paramedics provided on-site care to the injured.
A total of twelve individuals sustained injuries in the collision, with seven passengers transported to hospitals in Hanover for further assessment. Fortunately, both tram drivers emerged unscathed from the incident.
Visuals from the location depicted derailed tram carriages scattered along the tracks as emergency responders inundated the area. The two trams, one bound for Wettbergen on line 13 and the other en route to Altwarmbüchen on line 3, collided near the Allerweg stop on Ritter-Brüning-Straße under circumstances yet to be clarified.
During the rescue operation, Ritter-Brüning-Straße was closed off while substitute buses were arranged for affected passengers. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the crash’s cause, with approximately 60 emergency personnel and 24 vehicles deployed to the site.
