US President Donald Trump has approved Iran’s participation in the upcoming World Cup on American soil. Trump expressed his support by saying, “Let them play.” Iran, having qualified for the tournament, is set to compete in Group G matches against New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, and against Egypt in Seattle. Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, there were discussions about moving Iran’s fixtures to Mexico, but FIFA President Infantino remained resolute in ensuring Iran’s participation. During a press conference, Trump endorsed Infantino’s decision, praising the FIFA boss and acknowledging the potential of Iran’s team. Infantino reiterated the importance of Iran’s inclusion in the tournament, emphasizing unity and bringing people together. However, Iranian Football Federation president Mehdi Taj faced entry denial to Canada due to his ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, leading to Iran being the only nation absent from the FIFA Congress. Canada’s strict stance against allowing IRGC officials into the country was highlighted, as they labeled IRGC as a terrorist entity in their Criminal Code. Despite the setback, Iran is confirmed to compete in the World Cup in the US.
