“Trump Campaign Faces Backlash for Using Taylor Swift’s Music”

Published on

Some music from Taylor Swift has been taken down from social media posts by the Trump campaign and the White House. These platforms had featured two of the singer’s tracks in the past week. Neither the White House nor a representative for Taylor Swift immediately responded to requests for comments.

Although Swift has not recently addressed Trump, she did support his Democratic opponent, then Vice-President Kamala Harris, in 2024. During the 2020 election, Swift publicly expressed her disapproval of Trump as president.

Trump has openly criticized Swift, expressing his dislike for her after she backed Harris. Several other artists, such as Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have also requested that the Trump administration refrain from using their songs.

In recent times, the Trump campaign utilized two of Swift’s songs on their TikTok page. These videos referenced popular songs by Swift, like “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).” Additionally, a video posted in June depicted Trump interacting with children, attending a UFC match, and rallying while featuring Swift’s song “I Knew It, I Knew You” from the fictional Toy Story 5 soundtrack.

This wasn’t the first time the Trump administration used Swift’s music. In a previous video, Swift’s song “High Infidelity” was used with the caption “Do you really want to know where I was April 29th?” In another TikTok video, the song “The Fate of Ophelia” from Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl” was showcased alongside images of the U.S. flag and Trump.

The White House faced backlash for some of these posts, with a spokesperson defending them as a strategy to gain attention from news outlets. Trump’s communication team, known for its active social media presence, has shared content featuring various hit songs along with visuals related to Trump’s policies and actions.
