Despite this, Trump has chosen to revisit this approach by suggesting that reinstalling Nouri al-Maliki as Prime Minister would be a detrimental decision for Iraq. Trump conveyed on Truth Social, “I’ve been informed that Iraq may be making a grave error by reinstating Nouri al-Maliki as Prime Minister. When Maliki previously held power, the nation plunged into poverty and chaos. Allowing a recurrence of such circumstances should be prevented. If elected, the United States will withdraw its assistance from Iraq due to his radical policies and beliefs. Without our support, Iraq’s chances for Success, Prosperity, or Freedom are nonexistent. LET’S MAKE IRAQ GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump has been actively attempting to influence elections in various countries, such as Argentina and Colombia, through his posts on Truth Social. However, his rare mention of Iraq is not surprising given the historical complexities in the region.

Nevertheless, Trump’s intervention in this specific regime change may be too belated.

Following today’s Presidential election in Iraq, the victor will request the nominee of the largest parliamentary party to establish a government. The singular nominee proposed by a coalition of Shia factions, who constitute the majority, is set to take on this role.
