President Trump has indicated that the ongoing attack on Iran may extend for a period of four to five weeks. This announcement follows Iran’s retaliatory actions in response to strikes from the US and Israeli forces, resulting in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The conflict has escalated across the Middle East, with Iran targeting various countries including Cyprus, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar with missiles and drones.
Iran has targeted US bases and strategic military and economic sites in response to the airstrikes that claimed the life of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several of his family members. The situation intensified as Israel deployed over 200 fighter jets, the largest deployment in its history, targeting around 500 locations, including anti-aircraft installations and missile launch sites.
President Trump emphasized the US military’s commitment to sustaining the assault on Iran for up to five weeks if necessary, highlighting the ample ammunition reserves available globally. Additionally, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed that the UK is not directly involved in the strikes but has granted permission for the US to use British bases, such as Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford, for defensive operations against Iranian missile capabilities.
While the UK continues defensive actions in the region, it will collaborate with experts from Ukraine to counter Iranian drone attacks on Gulf partners. The decision to accept the US request to use British bases is based on collective self-defense principles to safeguard allies and British citizens from potential threats.
