US President Donald Trump has made aggressive comments towards Iran, threatening retaliation for recent attacks on US bases in the Middle East. In response to missile firings by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Trump vowed to take strong action, stating, “We’re going to beat them. We’ll be hitting them hard. They’re going to get a beating.”

The IRGC claimed responsibility for targeting a US base in Jordan with ballistic missiles, which were intercepted by US defenses. This incident occurred shortly after a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump in Washington. The US Central Command confirmed that the attack originated from Iran but all missiles were successfully intercepted.

In a separate development, a joint US-Saudi attack targeted pro-Iranian militia in Iraq with airstrikes in seven provinces. This action resulted in the deaths of around 20 fighters and injuries to 32 others, marking an escalation in tensions in the region. The US military stated that the attack was a response to numerous recent attacks by pro-Iranian fighters in Iraq.

The US and Saudi forces struck multiple terrorist sites in eastern Iraq in retaliation for more than 30 drone attacks conducted by “Iran-aligned terrorists” in the past three days. The targets of the attack were believed to be members of the Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Forces, a Shia faction formed in 2014 with origins in the insurgency against UK and US forces.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, two Palestinians were killed and 29 others injured within a 24-hour period. The ongoing conflict in the region has resulted in a significant number of casualties, with the latest round of violence stemming from previous attacks by Hamas on Israel in October 2023. Hezbollah’s involvement in Lebanon further escalated the situation, drawing Iran into the conflict.
