Donald Trump has issued a threat to halt trade with a prominent European nation. The US President criticized Spain during a press conference at the White House, declaring intentions to cease all trade with the country. Trump cited Spain’s refusal to grant the US military access to its bases for operations related to potential strikes on Iran as the reason for the trade suspension.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Trump mentioned Spain negatively during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, instructing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to sever all ties with the country. Additionally, Trump expressed frustration with the United Kingdom over disagreements regarding the use of the UK’s airbase on Diego Garcia for potential strikes against Iran.

Regarding the UK’s decision not to allow the US to use the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean and RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire for military actions, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted the importance of Britain’s national interest and lessons learned from past conflicts like Iraq. Despite initial disagreements, the UK has deployed a Royal Navy Destroyer, anti-drone helicopters, and RAF F-35 fighter jets to address escalating tensions, particularly following Iranian drone activities over Jordan.
