Donald Trump has issued a strong caution to Iran following the joint US-Israeli strikes that led to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump warned that any further retaliation from Iran would be met with an unprecedented show of force by the US.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran had threatened to strike harder than ever before but emphasized that they should not proceed with such actions. He asserted that any such move would trigger a forceful response from the US. The message was signed by President Donald J. Trump.
This warning came after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard declared their intention to launch their most intense offensive operation ever in response to the strikes that took place on Saturday.
Iranian state TV confirmed Khamenei’s death, which was earlier claimed by Trump. The Government has not officially commented on the Ayatollah’s passing. Shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel expressed a lack of sympathy for Khamenei’s death.
Following the strikes, Iran retaliated with attacks reported in several Gulf nations. The US and Israel defended the strikes as a preemptive measure against Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons. Talks between the US and Iran regarding Tehran’s nuclear program ended without an agreement, with plans to resume discussions later.
Sir Keir Starmer attended emergency meetings and engaged with allies after the attacks. The UK, along with France and Germany, condemned Iran’s actions and called for a peaceful resolution.
Sir Keir confirmed that the UK did not participate in the strikes but deployed aircraft for defensive operations in the region. Security measures have been heightened at British bases in the Middle East, with efforts focused on supporting UK nationals in the area.
