“Trump’s Gaza Development Plan Sparks Backlash”

Published on

The “Peace Board” initiated by Donald Trump has unveiled a collection of images showcasing the US President’s ambitious real estate-driven vision for a future Gaza post-conflict scenario.

Presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the photos depict a transformed Gaza coastline adorned with modern high-rise structures labeled as “New Gaza” and “New Rafah,” positioned as commercial centers aimed at providing job opportunities, skills training, and essential services to empower the local population. However, these plans have faced severe backlash, with critics viewing them as a tactic by developers and authoritarian figures to exploit the area.

The images displayed by the board portray a significantly developed Gaza, featuring a network of transport infrastructure and residential areas designed in concentric patterns. Promises of enhanced energy and digital facilities, substantial investments, and lucrative returns are outlined in the visuals.

Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a prominent investor, introduced a $25 billion proposal at the WEF, envisioning Gaza as a thriving economic hub with a projected GDP of $10 billion by 2035.

The proposed transformation involves converting a substantial portion of the Gaza coastline into a tourism zone with 180 mixed-use towers, while the inland areas are earmarked for residential zones and industrial sectors accommodating data centers and manufacturing units.

Infrastructure plans include the establishment of a port, an airport, a tripartite crossing at Rafah, and a comprehensive network of ring roads connecting urban areas within Gaza.

The proposals have sparked widespread outrage, particularly among displaced Palestinians, who express skepticism towards the involvement of accused war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu and the Trump administration in shaping the region’s future. Concerns are raised about the potential exploitation of Gaza’s resources and strategic positioning, which could jeopardize the Palestinian cause.

Critics, including displaced individuals like Manal al-Qouqa and Suhail al-Hanawi, voice their discontent, highlighting the lack of tangible solutions to alleviate Palestinian suffering and create a more promising outlook for those affected.

One social media commentator alleges that the plan is primarily aimed at exploiting Gaza’s natural resources, strategic location, and negating the right of return, rather than genuinely addressing the region’s needs.

The Peace Board, consisting of controversial world leaders such as Trump and Vladimir Putin, is further expanded to include representatives from nations like Belarus, Hungary, and Saudi Arabia, raising concerns over the board’s composition and intentions.
