Two lucky individuals from Liverpool and Norfolk have each won a substantial £1 million prize as Premium Bonds holders. National Savings & Investments (NS&I) announced that the winning number for the first £1 million prize in March is 496VT504601, held by a Liverpool resident who purchased the bond in April 2022. This is the fifth jackpot winner from Liverpool. The second £1 million prize number, 282NN327573, belongs to a Norfolk resident who bought the bond in September 2016. They are the third person from Norfolk to win the £1 million jackpot.
Andrew Westhead, NS&I Retail Director, expressed joy for the two winners and highlighted that this month’s draw awarded over £410 million in tax-free prizes to more than six million winners. The total amount paid to Premium Bonds winners in this draw is £410,607,175, bringing the overall prize value since the first draw in 1957 to over £40.3 billion.
Aside from the two £1 million winners, other fortunate bond holders received various prizes, including 78 individuals winning £100,000, 156 winning £50,000, 313 winning £25,000, and 782 winning £10,000 each. Additionally, nearly 2.7 million bond holders received £25 each.
Premium Bonds, introduced in November 1956, offer individuals the opportunity to hold up to £50,000 in bonds with the security of being backed by the UK Treasury and the chance to win tax-free prizes. New bond purchases must be held for a full calendar month before being eligible for the prize draw. Winners of the £1 million jackpot are announced on the first working day of each month, contacted directly by Agent Million.
Bond holders can check their prize status from £25 to £100,000 by using the Premium Bonds prize checker app, visiting the NS&I website, or asking Alexa on the day following the first working day of each month. To access prize information on the NS&I website, holders need their Premium Bonds holder’s number, while the app allows the use of either the holder’s number or their NS&I number for verification.
