A new round of snowfall may be on the horizon for various regions in the UK before the end of the month.
Impending Arctic conditions could bring blizzards that might deposit up to 50cm of snow in specific areas, coupled with temperatures dropping as low as -13C. Recent weather forecasts by WXCharts suggest that Scotland, north-west England, parts of south-west England, and Wales could see snowfall rates of up to 10mm per hour on Thursday, January 29.
This could result in snow accumulations of up to 30cm in multiple English regions, including Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, the Midlands, Bristol, parts of Somerset, Devon, and London.
Northern areas, especially the north of Scotland, previously impacted by Storm Goretti, may witness snow depths of 50cm, while the north-west of England could see up to 23cm of snow accumulation, as per the latest projections.
A significant drop in temperatures is expected, with parts of Scotland potentially facing a bitter -13C, while other parts of the country could experience temperatures around -4C.
The Met Office has also indicated the possibility of further snowfall before the end of January. Their outlook for January 20 to 29 mentions a clash between Atlantic weather systems from the west and high pressure bringing colder conditions from the east. Initially, milder Atlantic air is anticipated to dominate the weather patterns.
The recent ‘multi-hazard’ event, Storm Goretti, caused widespread impact in the UK with winds reaching 99mph and significant snowfall, leading to a red weather warning earlier this month.
