The United Kingdom is potentially facing a record-breaking June heatwave, as meteorologists predict temperatures could soar to 38C in certain areas of England soon. The Met Office anticipates a significant increase in heat levels over the weekend, particularly in the southern and southeastern regions, meeting official heatwave criteria.

Sunday is expected to see highs of around 32C in the south and southeast of England, with potential temperatures of 34C in some southern areas on Monday. The Met Office has indicated a 40% chance of surpassing the current June temperature record of 35.6C, set in 1957 in London and Southampton.

Weather models by forecaster WXCharts suggest that London could experience temperatures reaching 38C by Tuesday evening, potentially setting a new June heat record. Additionally, counties such as Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey, and Suffolk might see temperatures exceeding 36C.

Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, Gregory Wolverson, stated that regions in the south and southeast of England are likely to experience heatwave conditions in the upcoming days, with temperatures possibly reaching the low 30s in the warmest spots. The forecaster also issued amber weather alerts for extreme heat across various regions, cautioning about potential health risks and travel disruptions due to the soaring temperatures.
