Snowfall is forecasted to cover extensive areas, particularly the Midlands, on Thursday as a low-pressure system moves in from the southwest. The prevailing cold air across the UK will cause any precipitation from the low pressure system to fall as snow, leading to potential travel disruptions.

Temperatures are anticipated to stay cold, especially in northern England and Scotland. Recent temperatures plummeted to -10.9C in Shap, Cumbria, and -9.4C in Shawbury, Shropshire, with significant snowfall reported in various regions. Some schools have closed on Tuesday due to the inclement weather.

Concerns mount for further disruptions towards the end of the week. The Met Office, which has active snow and ice weather warnings, is closely monitoring the approaching low-pressure system expected to arrive on Thursday morning.

Meteorologist Aidan McGivern mentioned the uncertainty surrounding the track of the incoming Atlantic low-pressure system, with both scenarios likely to result in snowfall across most UK regions.

The Midlands are expected to experience the heaviest snowfall on Thursday morning and afternoon, while southern regions may face wind and rain with central areas at risk of snow-related disruptions.

The Met Office may issue additional weather warnings in relation to the upcoming adverse weather conditions. Cold temperatures persist over the weekend, leading to icy conditions that could affect events like the FA Cup third round proper.

Throughout the week, travel delays on roads are expected, potentially stranding vehicles and passengers. Rail and air travel may also experience delays and cancellations due to the anticipated snow and lingering icy conditions in some areas.

Meteorologist Jo Farrow from NetWeather highlighted the cold conditions expected overnight into Thursday, particularly in eastern Britain, with attention turning to a low-pressure signal later on Thursday bringing severe weather elements.
