Snow and blizzard conditions are expected to impact more than a dozen major cities in the UK next week, as indicated by weather forecasts. According to the latest WXCharts maps, approximately 15 cities in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England could experience significant snowfall between February 4 and February 5.

The Met Office has issued nine weather warnings for Tuesday as the UK prepares for Storm Chandra, the third major storm of the month following storms Goretti and Ingrid. London and much of southern England are likely to see rain instead of snow, with the heaviest snowfall anticipated in the Scottish Highlands, where up to 19 inches may accumulate. Parts of the Pennines and surrounding areas could also see around seven inches of snow.

On Tuesday, many regions of the UK will be under rain and wind alerts as Storm Chandra approaches overnight. The storm has been named Chandra within the western Europe storm naming group shared by the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

Paul Gundersen, the Met Office Chief Forecaster, warned that Storm Chandra will bring various hazards to the UK, including strong winds, heavy rain on saturated ground, and accumulating snow in northern regions. People are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and warnings.

Looking ahead to the period from January 31 to February 9, the Met Office’s long-range forecast predicts that Atlantic weather systems will move in from the west and stall over the UK due to high pressure from the north and northeast. This is expected to bring periods of rain, showers, and strong winds, with wintry conditions likely in the northeast due to the interaction of cold air with incoming fronts from the southwest, possibly leading to snow across hills and lower areas at times.
