Temperatures rose to 11.6C in Hampshire over the weekend, but a significant drop is expected with temperatures feeling as cold as -5C during an Arctic snap that may persist for weeks. Snow is expected in parts of Eastern England, Southeast England, and Scotland at the beginning of this period.

By Sunday morning, heavy snowfall is forecast in Essex and Cambridgeshire, spreading to other areas including County Durham and the Scottish Highlands. The snow is likely to turn into rain later in the day, with Fife in Scotland experiencing the heaviest rainfall.

Meteorologist Nick Finnis described the upcoming weather change as a “battleground” between a high-pressure system from Siberia and low-pressure systems from the west, influenced by a strong jet stream moving across the North Atlantic. Cold air from Scandinavia is expected to move west over the North Sea, potentially leading to snow across various regions.

Mr. Finnis added that the battle between cold and warm air masses may result in widespread snowfall on Monday, although uncertainties remain about the extent of the cold air flow.
