“UK Braces for Snowstorms: Eight Days of Snow Forecasted”

Published on

Despite the current high temperatures in the UK, there are indications of freezing weather and snow approaching in the near future. Advanced weather forecasting tools suggest that snowfall could occur for eight consecutive days later this month, affecting major cities such as London.

The anticipated blizzards are expected to commence on March 13, with projections showing snow developing in Scotland, northern England, and parts of the south-west. An Atlantic weather front is predicted to move in on March 14, bringing snow to Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, and northern England, along with heavy rain in other parts of England and Wales.

Further snowfall is forecasted for March 15, primarily in northern regions, with cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Newcastle likely to experience flurries around 6am. As we move into March 16 and 17, light snow is expected over hills in Scotland, while some wintry showers may impact South Wales and the south-west of England around midday on March 17.

The snow is then anticipated to shift eastwards, with maps indicating snowfall in southern England and London by 6am on March 18. On March 19 and 20, more snowfall is likely to affect Northern Ireland, northern England, and Scotland, completing the eight-day period of snow.

Temperature readings are set to drop below freezing during this period, with temperatures possibly reaching as low as -2°C in northern England and Scotland on March 18. Even in southern England, daytime temperatures may struggle to rise above 4°C. The Met Office has mentioned the possibility of wintry hazards impacting the UK later in the month, although they do not anticipate extremely cold conditions.

Looking ahead to the forecast for March 19 to April 2, the Met Office suggests unsettled conditions with rain and strong winds affecting many areas initially. Towards the end of March, weather patterns may become more stable, with the likelihood of wintry conditions increasing, especially in the north and northwest regions. While temperatures are expected to be near average overall, there is a growing chance of below-average temperatures towards the end of March, although no severe cold weather is currently predicted.
