A couple from the UK imprisoned in Iran is feared to be at risk of starvation in their detention facility as guards are reportedly leaving their posts due to concerns about potential US attacks. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, both 53 years old, have been held in Iran’s infamous Evin prison for over a year on espionage charges they deny since January 2025. Despite recent communication with their family after US-led military actions commenced, worries about their safety persist.
The situation has worsened as guards abandon their duties, leaving the couple to hear explosions nearby. The Foreman family received their last communication from Lindsay and Craig on Monday morning, where they described the sounds of numerous blasts, some of which were so powerful that they shattered plastic windows in their cell.
Evin prison, situated north of Tehran, is currently under attack by the Israeli Defence Forces, targeting high-ranking political and security figures in Iran. Joe Bennett, Lindsay’s son, expressed deep concerns about his mother and her partner being caught in a war zone without consular assistance, facing risks of stray explosions, gunfire, or local conflicts.
The family urgently called on UK and US authorities to prioritize the safe extraction of foreign nationals, including Lindsay and Craig. The couple was sentenced to a decade in prison, a decision criticized by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper as “completely appalling and totally unjustifiable.” The ongoing conflict in Iran, with no defined end date, has been highlighted by Donald Trump, who hinted at the possibility of an enduring struggle in a recent post on Truth Social.
