Parts of the UK are set to experience scorching highs of 35C today, as per the latest forecast from the Met Office. However, a significant drop in temperatures is on the horizon, with the GFS weather model indicating a cooling trend for Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Anomaly maps show deep blue hues across the UK, signaling temperatures well below the seasonal average.

Projections suggest maximum temperatures reaching only 16C in the south-east of England on Tuesday, with South Wales and the Midlands around 14C, Northern Ireland at 12C, and a plunge to as low as 7C in northern Scotland. Throughout the day, temperatures are not expected to rise much, with the warmest spot being the far south-west at 19C and dropping to 9C in northern England.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, temperatures are forecasted to remain cool, with northern Scotland potentially seeing 6C at midday, northern England at 8C, Northern Ireland at 9C, and the south-east of England at 14C. Afternoon temperatures show little improvement, with the south-east at 13C and the Midlands at 11C.

The GFS model indicates that 22 counties may witness daytime temperatures below 10C over the two days, primarily in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England. The Met Office anticipates “changeable” conditions in the coming week, with the possibility of low pressure systems affecting the UK in early August, bringing spells of heavy rain and strong winds. However, a return to more settled conditions is expected towards the end of the first week of August.
