The United Kingdom is facing a snow warning that could disrupt the onset of spring just days after the season officially started. Recent days have seen temperatures rise to the high teens, reaching up to 20C in some areas on Wednesday, offering a pleasant change from the chilly start to March. These temperatures are expected to persist until Saturday, with a forecast of 14C today, coinciding with the Spring Equinox.

However, meteorologists caution that temperatures have peaked and are likely to drop significantly from Sunday, potentially plummeting to single digits by Wednesday, ushering in wintry conditions in certain regions. The Met Office anticipates temperatures to hover around or slightly below average, accompanied by frequent showers and gusty winds. Meteorologist Alex Deakin highlighted a forthcoming “cold plunge” on Wednesday, with the possibility of snow in Scotland, which experienced its warmest day of the year on Friday.

Deakin emphasized the expected temperature drop by midweek, stating that many areas could see single-digit temperatures, particularly at night. Parts of northern Scotland may witness snowfall on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, catching many residents off guard after the recent spell of fine weather.

While rain and wind are predicted to ease towards the end of the week, temperatures are forecasted to remain cool, with potential overnight frost in some locations. Weather maps indicate scattered flurries over Scotland and down the east coast towards the east of England, with temperatures remaining in the low single digits. Temperatures are expected to range between 1C to 2C in England, possibly dropping as low as -1C, while colder conditions are anticipated in Scotland, with temperatures plunging to as low as -5C in the highlands and northern regions.
