“UK Faces Triple Snowstorms Before Christmas”

Published on

Advanced weather models indicate the possibility of three snowstorms affecting the UK just before Christmas. This forecast suggests that significant snowfall may occur, potentially leading to a white Christmas with snow still on the ground by December 25.

The weather model suggests that around half of the UK could be impacted by an Arctic blast, with various regions expected to receive several inches of snow. The wintry weather is expected to begin on December 20 as an Atlantic weather front moves across the country, starting with Northern Ireland experiencing intense snowfall before spreading to Wales, the Midlands, the north of England, and Scotland.

A second snowstorm is predicted to hit Northern Ireland on December 21, bringing potentially heavy snowfall that will then extend to other parts of the UK, particularly the north-west of England. Subsequently, a third snowy front is forecasted to dump several centimeters of snow in Northern Ireland, the north of England, and Scotland on December 22.

Snow coverage maps for December 22 show a significant portion of the UK covered in snow, with estimates of 12cm in the north of Scotland and 6cm in parts of northern England and Northern Ireland. The Met Office forecast indicates the likelihood of snow later in December, with a period of changeable conditions across the UK, including showers, rain, and hill snow in the north, along with possible strong winds and average to slightly above-average temperatures.

Looking ahead to the period from December 22 to January 4, BBC Weather forecasts continued uncertainty but expects changeable weather with occasional rain or showers and periods of strong winds, mainly mild conditions, and the possibility of brief colder intervals with snow mainly in northern uplands. There are indications that weather patterns may shift by January, potentially leading to colder weather if the NAO pattern changes from positive to negative, influenced by disturbances in the upper atmosphere.
