The latest weather models indicate that 18 counties in the UK could experience temperatures exceeding 34C on Monday and Tuesday, with the ongoing heatwave showing no signs of abating.

According to the Met Office, temperatures could reach as high as 35C on both days, potentially marking the hottest May days ever recorded, surpassing the current record of 32.8C.

Yesterday saw the highest temperatures of the year so far, exceeding 30C for the first time in 2026. Today is expected to be even warmer, with possible highs of 32C in southern regions. The yearly temperature record is likely to be broken on Monday and Tuesday as well.

Weather forecasts from the UKV model suggest that temperatures could soar to 34C on Monday, reaching as far north as Lincolnshire, while central and southern England are expected to experience temperatures in the low 30s.

The weather maps indicate that on Tuesday, highs of 35C could be possible in London and the south-west, with a total of 18 counties in England potentially seeing temperatures of 34C or higher.

The Met Office’s latest predictions suggest that temperatures will continue to peak at 28C or above until at least Thursday. A heatwave is officially declared when temperatures meet or exceed the heatwave threshold, which ranges from 25C to 28C, for three consecutive days.

Looking ahead to June, the Met Office forecasts continued “very warm” temperatures from May 28 to June 6, with the likelihood of fine weather and light winds prevailing over most areas. Some showers with thunder may occur in the west on Thursday, while temperatures are expected to remain warm inland but cooler near coastal areas.

As June approaches, there is a possibility of increased cloud cover, occasional rain, and showers, interspersed with warm and dry weather periods.
