Andy Burnham has assured Ukraine of the UK’s unwavering support, committing to stand by President Volodymyr Zelensky “100%.” In their inaugural meeting, Burnham emphasized the significance of the bond between the two nations, highlighting his personal dedication to upholding all commitments made to Ukraine.
Speaking from a naval base in Portsmouth alongside Ukrainian and British sailors, Burnham underscored the message of solidarity, stating, “We are with Ukraine 100%. I am personally with you 100%, Mr. President. I will fulfill every promise this country has made to Ukraine without fail.” He further expressed his unequivocal support, assuring Zelensky, “We have your back. You can rely on me and the UK for as long as necessary.”
Zelensky reciprocated the sentiment, affirming that the UK-Ukraine relationship is stronger than ever. He thanked Burnham for his dedication to the partnership, particularly in matters of defense and security.
Addressing concerns in Kyiv over the change in UK leadership, Burnham moved swiftly to alleviate uncertainties on the global stage. He reassured Zelensky that the UK’s stance on Ukraine remains steadfast across political parties, emphasizing shared empathy for the challenges faced by the Ukrainian people.
Following the meeting, Burnham described the interaction as “very warm,” highlighting a promising future of close collaboration. He announced plans for an upcoming visit to Ukraine to further solidify the partnership and address the key issues raised by President Zelensky.
During the visit, Burnham and Zelensky met with over 200 Ukrainian military personnel participating in Exercise Sea Breeze, a strategic maritime security exercise in preparation for future missions in the Black Sea. Additionally, Burnham disclosed a pact enabling Ukraine to commence large-scale production of UK-designed signal jammers capable of neutralizing Russian air defenses.
The electronic warfare system, named “Stone Cloak,” is a compact device designed to disrupt drone detection upon installation.
