A well-known pub chain in the UK has declared its intention to shut down all 106 of its establishments over the next few weeks. Beefeater, recognized for its 30-day aged steaks and diverse grills, has officially confirmed its exit from the pub-restaurant sector effective September 10.

These closures are part of a significant restructuring initiative by Whitbread, the owner, aimed at saving £250 million. This strategy includes the closure of all remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre locations, putting approximately 3,800 jobs in jeopardy.

Customers were informed of the closures via a letter addressed to Beefeater reward club members, as reported by the Southend Echo. The communication stated, “As you may have seen, we have recently announced changes to our operations, resulting in the closure of our Branded Restaurants. This means that on Thursday, September 10, 2026, your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will cease operations.”

According to Whitbread CEO Dominic Paul, the decision for this overhaul was triggered by significant cost escalations. A company spokesperson mentioned that efforts will be made to retain a substantial number of affected employees and explore options for redeploying as many impacted colleagues as feasible, as per The Sun.

While closure dates for Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block have not been finalized yet, the company remains optimistic about mitigating the impact of these changes on its workforce.
