People in 93 regions across the UK are urged to take precautions today to prevent potential injuries during a severe cold spell resembling Arctic conditions.

Untreated surfaces like roads and walkways have become icy, posing a risk of disruptions and accidents due to slips and falls. The Met Office has issued a caution, highlighting the vulnerability of individuals to such incidents and suggested safety measures to reduce the risks.

The Eastern Midlands and parts of northern England are forecasted to experience heightened icy conditions throughout the day. The Met Office’s official statement noted, “Following the clearing skies overnight on Tuesday, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing by Wednesday morning. Considering the recent wet weather, icy patches are likely to form on untreated surfaces.”

The most severe weather conditions are anticipated in the Eastern Midlands and parts of northern England, with additional fog expected. Despite these challenges, the Met Office has advised the public on safety precautions, especially for those traveling in rural areas.

According to the weather service, the perceived temperature today may reach as low as -4°C, although the actual air temperature is anticipated to be slightly higher. A sharp southeasterly wind is expected to make it feel even colder, particularly in south Wales.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s weather, the Met Office’s website forecasts, “Some patchy fog in the east initially. There could be occasional showers in the southwest and northeast, while many areas are likely to remain dry with occasional sunny intervals.”
