Keir Starmer has revealed that the UK will be sending the HMS Dragon warship and helicopters equipped with anti-drone technology to Cyprus following a drone attack on a UK airbase.
HMS Dragon, one of the Royal Navy’s premier air defense destroyers, is known for its advanced capabilities. This decision comes at a time of escalating tensions in the Middle East, with recent strikes by the US and Israel on Iran.
In response, Tehran has carried out retaliatory strikes in the Gulf States, including an attack on RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus with a drone. Defense Secretary John Healey expressed grave concern over the incident, labeling it as a reckless act by Iran and its affiliates in the region.
In a statement, Keir Starmer assured the commitment of the UK to Cyprus’ security and the British military personnel stationed there. He mentioned plans to deploy helicopters with anti-drone technology and the HMS Dragon to the region, emphasizing the UK’s dedication to safeguarding its interests and those of its allies.
