UK Set to Sizzle: Record-Breaking Heatwave Forecast

Published on

The upcoming week in the UK is expected to bring warmer weather than popular holiday destinations like Ibiza, with temperatures rising significantly. According to the latest forecast from the Met Office, London could see temperatures reaching 19C by 3pm on Wednesday. Southern and central England are likely to experience temperatures around 18C, while Wales and northern regions may expect temperatures ranging from 16C to 17C. Northern Ireland and Scotland are forecasted to be slightly cooler.

The hottest day of the year so far was recorded on March 5 when London reached a peak temperature of 19.2C. Weather models suggest that Wednesday’s temperatures could surpass this previous record. The UKV model indicates potential highs of 20C in the southeast of England at 3pm, with temperatures of 19C and 18C expected in eastern regions, the Midlands, and the broader southern areas.

Furthermore, the GFS weather model predicts a significant rise in temperatures above the seasonal average on Wednesday. Anomalies in temperature maps for around 6pm show areas in England and Wales where temperatures will be much warmer than usual for this time of year.

In contrast, the Met Office anticipates temperatures in Ibiza to peak at 16C on Wednesday, while Zante is expected to reach highs of only 15C. Looking ahead, the Met Office forecasts frequent spells of pleasant spring sunshine, but also warns of potential colder interludes. The weather outlook for March 19 to 28 suggests generally settled conditions with fluctuating temperatures and a possibility of overnight frost and fog. While most places can expect pleasant spring sunshine, some coastal areas exposed to an easterly wind may experience different conditions, with the chance of showers or rain returning later in the period.

BBC Weather forecasts more rain from the Atlantic on Monday, but high pressure over the near continent may keep much of it away from southern regions, particularly the Southeast. The rest of the week is expected to be dominated by high pressure, with a mix of rain and strong winds in northern and western areas on Tuesday. By Wednesday, dry weather is likely with warm sunshine for most places, although easterly breezes may bring cooler temperatures to some eastern coastal regions at times.
