Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Canada next week, as per information obtained by Radio-Canada sources. The upcoming visit, initially disclosed by the Globe and Mail, has been verified by two separate sources. It is reported that Zelenskyy’s itinerary in Canada may involve two different stops.
Zelenskyy last visited Canada in December, where he held discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax. Following this, he proceeded to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump concerning efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to provide any comments regarding the anticipated visit.
Reports of the visit coincide with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement that several nations, including the U.S. and China, are prepared to assist in achieving a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. However, Putin emphasized that the primary responsibility lies with Russia and Ukraine to resolve the conflict. He expressed gratitude to those contributing to the peace process and expressed optimism about the chances for a resolution.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking in Kyiv, anticipates a renewed momentum in peace initiatives with active political and diplomatic engagements in various global capitals. Following a 4½-year-long conflict, one of Europe’s deadliest since World War II, both sides rarely offer positive assessments of peace prospects. The last mediated talks between the two sides took place in February.
