A courageous university student, Xana Kernodle, bravely defended herself against a violent intruder in her home, ultimately being stabbed 67 times. The attacker, Bryan Kohberger, had already killed her two flatmates, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, before turning on Ms. Kernodle. Despite being unarmed, she valiantly fought back, trying to protect her sleeping boyfriend, Ethan Chapin.
Tragically, Ms. Kernodle, a student at the University of Idaho, succumbed to 67 stab wounds inflicted by Kohberger, including severe injuries to her jugular vein, back, chest, and face. Court filings detailing her autopsy report shed light on the horrific extent of her injuries.
Following Ms. Kernodle’s death, Kohberger proceeded to murder Mr. Chapin at the off-campus property in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. He was sentenced to life in prison after admitting to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary.
Despite the tragic loss of Ms. Goncalves, Ms. Mogen, and Mr. Chapin, two other roommates survived the brutal attack, thanks to Ms. Kernodle’s brave actions. The court was informed that the fatal victims were attacked in their beds, while Ms. Kernodle, who was eating at the time, heard the disturbance.
Detailed court documents revealed traces of blood from Ms. Mogen and Ms. Goncalves at various locations in the house, indicating the sequence of events. Autopsy reports indicated that the two young women did not resist their attacker, suggesting that another person must have left the bloodstains. Despite being physically overpowered, Ms. Kernodle displayed remarkable resilience, putting up a fight against Kohberger.
The autopsy report on Ms. Kernodle documented numerous wounds across her body, including multiple stab wounds and incisions on her face, neck, chest, abdomen, back, and extremities. Despite the relentless attack, Ms. Kernodle’s determination to resist was evident from the blood evidence found on her body.
The tragic incident serves as a chilling reminder of the bravery and sacrifice shown by Ms. Kernodle in the face of unimaginable violence.
