The mother of a man who was stabbed in an antisemitic attack provided an update on her son’s condition. The incident occurred in Golders Green, northwest London, where two men, aged 76 and 34, were attacked and treated by medical personnel. Authorities later confirmed it as a terrorist incident.
A 45-year-old British man, who arrived in the UK from Somalia as a child, was arrested in connection with the attack. He was apprehended after being seen carrying a blade on the street and subsequently shot with a stun gun.
The victim’s mother, speaking to the BBC, mentioned that her son, aged 34, is now in stable condition. She expressed shock at the incident, emphasizing the peaceful nature of the community. The victim was simply walking down the street when the attack occurred. The police cordon in Golders Green, which was in place following the attack, has been lifted, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
Footage from body-worn cameras capturing the arrest of the suspect has been released. The video shows the suspect, a Somali-born British national, holding a knife and approaching police officers. Tasers were deployed, leading to the suspect being subdued and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
During the arrest, officers repeatedly instructed the suspect to drop the knife as they struggled to detain him. A member of the Jewish community security team eventually disarmed the suspect. The suspect was handcuffed and arrested at the scene. The police watchdog has confirmed no issues related to the arrest procedure.
