Laura Storr, a 35-year-old British citizen facing critical health issues in Saudi Arabia, is in urgent need of assistance to return home for medical treatment. Despite being approved for treatment by the NHS in the UK, she requires £110,000 to cover the expenses of a medical evacuation flight.
Her sister, Emily, has initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to raise the necessary funds. Emily expressed deep concern for Laura’s worsening condition over the past two months in Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the urgency of her situation. Due to the ongoing regional conflicts, the costs and complexities of arranging a medical evacuation have escalated, necessitating specialized support and resources for safe transportation.
Laura, who relocated to Saudi Arabia from Essex in 2020 for work, suffers from pulmonary arterial hypertension, a severe lung condition leading to high blood pressure in the arteries. While her current medical expenses are covered by insurance, the evacuation costs are not included.
Emily shared her distress over Laura’s deteriorating health, revealing that medical professionals have identified a rare, aggressive form of her condition that is challenging to treat. Laura’s oxygen levels are dangerously low, preventing her from flying home. Emily described Laura’s current state as critical, with severe lung infections causing significant distress.
Meanwhile, tensions in the region have escalated, with Iran threatening retaliatory attacks on energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar following Israeli strikes on South Pars, its largest gas field.
To support Laura’s fundraiser, donations can be made on the GoFundMe page linked above.
