Every compassionate individual in our nation must have been deeply disturbed by the occurrences of the past week. These events must serve as a pivotal moment. The recent incident in Golders Green, where Jews were subjected to an antisemitic act of terror, is not reflective of our identity.

My thoughts are with the victims of this heinous attack. I sincerely hope for their swift recovery and offer my support to their families during this challenging period.

Despite witnessing the worst aspects of human behavior, we also witnessed acts of bravery. I express immense gratitude to the Shomrim and Hatzola volunteers, local community members, and emergency responders for their swift and courageous actions, which undoubtedly saved lives. They are true heroes.

The recent surge in antisemitism following the attacks in 2023 has been alarming. Tragic incidents such as the assault on a synagogue in Manchester and subsequent attacks on Jewish establishments in London have left the British Jewish community understandably shaken and fearful for their safety.

Jewish life is an integral part of our national identity and must be safeguarded. The government’s allocation of an additional £25 million for enhanced security measures at synagogues, schools, and other sites demonstrates a commitment to protecting the community.

However, more needs to be done. It is imperative that we address the root causes of antisemitism and prevent external forces from fueling threats against our citizens. The government is taking steps to crack down on hostile actions and strengthen security measures to counter extremism both domestically and internationally.

Efforts are underway to eradicate antisemitism from public institutions, including the NHS, through mandatory training and comprehensive reviews. Additionally, a significant investment of £7 million has been pledged to combat antisemitism in educational settings.

Antisemitism is a pervasive evil that has plagued our society for too long. It is time for a united effort to combat this hatred and ensure the safety of British Jews. We must stand in solidarity with the Jewish community, denounce all forms of hatred, and work together to create a more inclusive and tolerant society.
