The United States and Iran have officially signed a memorandum of understanding to bring an end to the conflict, as confirmed by two senior American officials. The peace agreement was digitally signed, and the memorandum is now in effect. Iran has a 60-day period to demonstrate its commitment to peace and reform after agreeing with the United States. Both parties will need to engage in discussions to address key issues such as the status of the Strait of Hormuz for ship traffic, the USD$300 billion fund for Iran’s reconstruction, among others.
The full memorandum of understanding (MOU) was disclosed on Wednesday, outlining the framework for the upcoming two months of negotiations between the US, Iran, and Tehran. The US aims to achieve de-proliferation as its ultimate objective. President Trump cautioned Tehran’s leaders to adhere to the agreement, warning of resuming the conflict and continuing to confront the Islamic Republic’s activities.
