US Depletes Key Weapon Stockpile in Iran Conflict

Published on

The United States has utilized a significant portion of its crucial weapons arsenal in the ongoing conflict with Iran under the leadership of former President Donald Trump. Recent findings reveal that the Pentagon has expended over 1,200 Patriot interceptor missiles, each valued at more than $4 million, along with over 1,000 Precision Strike and ATACMS ground-based missiles.

Reports indicate that the US military has also deployed approximately 1,100 long-range stealth cruise missiles, primarily designed for potential conflicts with China, depleting a substantial portion of its existing stockpile. Moreover, the country has launched more than 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles, a number far exceeding its annual procurement rate.

While White House officials have refrained from providing an exact cost estimate for the conflict, independent analyses suggest that the expenses range between $28 billion and $35 billion. A study conducted by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) further indicates that the war has incurred costs ranging from $25 billion to $35 billion, with an alarming $5.6 billion expended within the initial two days of the engagement.

Senator Jack Reed, a prominent figure on the Armed Services Committee, has cautioned that replenishing the depleted stockpile to its previous levels may require considerable time, given the current production rates. The Department of Defense awaits approval from Congress for additional funds to commence the restoration process.

Despite the administration’s claims of securing long-term agreements with defense contractors to boost production capacity, no tangible progress has been made in expanding production due to financial constraints. Mark F. Cancian, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, highlighted the critical shortages of ground-attack and missile-defense munitions exacerbated by the conflict.

In response to the reports, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the narrative as “false,” asserting that the United States possesses a robust military force with abundant stockpiles of weapons and munitions to safeguard the nation and execute strategic military operations as directed by the commander in chief.
