The United States has initiated a military operation in a new country.
American forces are collaborating with the Ecuadorian military to take decisive action against narco-trafficking groups in Ecuador, as announced by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) on Tuesday. The operations were launched on the same day.
General Francis L. Donovan, the SOUTHCOM Commander, praised the dedication of the Ecuadorian armed forces in combating narco-terrorists in the country, applauding their courage and determination.
The Trump administration is determined to combat drug trafficking in the area, having conducted over 40 lethal strikes on suspected drug vessels in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean since September.
In January, U.S. forces apprehended the then-president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, on charges of narco-terrorism.
