“Venus Williams Skips Media Obligations at Wimbledon”

Published on

Venus Williams did not appear for media obligations after losing in mixed doubles at Wimbledon. The renowned American, a five-time singles champion at SW19, partnered with doubles specialist Kevin Krawietz as a wildcard entry. Despite a crowd eagerly waiting outside Court 14 to see the 46-year-old, Williams and Krawietz were defeated 6-4, 6-4 by the seventh-seeded pair Lloyd Glasspool and Tereza Mihalikova.

Following the match, Venus was expected to attend a press conference but opted not to attend or provide any comments through the WTA or the All England Club. Consequently, she may face a potential fine of up to £37,000 ($50,000) as per Grand Slam regulations, at the discretion of tournament supervisors.

In a recent incident, Venus’s younger sister, Serena, received criticism for missing post-match media duties after her singles loss to Maya Joint. However, Serena managed to avoid a fine as she sustained a knee injury during the match, leading to her exemption from press responsibilities based on medical advice.

Serena and Venus were set to team up in the doubles competition, but Serena’s knee injury has raised doubts about their participation. Serena confirmed her injury on social media, casting uncertainty over their scheduled match against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra, which is currently planned for Saturday with the exact timing and court allocation pending confirmation.

Tournament director Jamie Baker mentioned the flexibility in scheduling matches to accommodate various factors like injuries and other unforeseen circumstances to ensure the smooth running of the tournament. Wimbledon 2026 tickets are already available for purchase with VIP access, offering fans a chance to experience the prestigious event.
