“Vernon Kay Teases Jeremy Vine on Radio Snub”

Published on

Vernon Kay playfully teased his radio co-host, Jeremy Vine, to “move on” after experiencing an awkward snub on live broadcast. The incident occurred during a light-hearted interaction when Jeremy made a surprise appearance towards the end of Vernon’s show on Thursday, June 11, to offer a preview of his BBC Radio 2 program.

During the exchange, Jeremy inquired about a possible sweepstake for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, mentioning that he had not received an invitation. He then asked if there was a sweepstake happening in the building to which Vernon confirmed and questioned if Jeremy had a ticket.

In response, Jeremy humorously stated that he had not been invited yet, while Vernon’s producer clarified that it was exclusively for the staff, causing laughter in the studio. Vernon then jokingly asked Jeremy how long he had been at the BBC, to which Jeremy replied 39 years, labeling the on-air snub as a memorable moment for him.

Vernon clarified that the invitation was meant for production staff only, finding amusement in the situation. Playfully, he remarked, “After forty years, Jeremy has been left out,” as Jeremy confirmed he joined in 1987.

Jeremy proceeded to discuss the topic of gambling on his show, mentioning the importance of adhering to rules to prevent sweepstakes from crossing into professional gambling territory. Light-heartedly, he expressed concern about the staff-only sweepstake and jokingly claimed dibs on Japan, to which Vernon humorously replied, “You’re not staff; move on.”

This incident followed Vernon sharing details about a family event involving his ex-wife Tess Daly, following their announcement of splitting after 23 years of marriage. Vernon expressed gratitude for the well wishes received from listeners on behalf of himself and Tess, indicating that they continue to reside together.

Additionally, Vernon mentioned celebrating his daughter Amber’s birthday alongside Tess, recalling the enjoyable time they had tidying up after the party.
