An elderly man, William Eastment, who was once suspected of being involved in international drug smuggling, has returned to his village in Somerset after being released from a Chilean prison where he spent a year. Eastment, known as “Billy Boy” to his friends, was seen walking cautiously through the village, looking frail and unrecognizable to his neighbors. However, the case against him was dropped when it was revealed that he had been tricked by a criminal gang into unknowingly carrying drugs in a suitcase.

Having lost a significant amount of weight during his ordeal, Eastment is now readjusting to his normal life in his one-bedroom bungalow with the support of his friends. He has been spotted venturing outside and taking short walks as he tries to regain his strength. Despite his dramatic physical transformation, he is slowly getting back to his routine, even going shopping in Yeovil.

Eastment’s nightmare began when he received an email claiming he was entitled to a multi-million-dollar inheritance, which turned out to be a scam orchestrated by criminals using the name of the International Monetary Fund. He was flown around the world under the guise of receiving the inheritance and was ultimately caught with drugs in his possession at Santiago Airport.

After months in prison, during which his health deteriorated, Eastment was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing as evidence supported his claim of being a victim of a scam. He was able to return to Britain without facing trial, with authorities assisting him in arranging his journey back home.

Eastment’s return marks the end of a harrowing experience that started with false promises and led to a year-long ordeal in a Chilean prison. Despite the challenges he faced, he is now back in his village, surrounded by supportive friends who are helping him rebuild his life.
