Virgin Media is set to introduce a significant upgrade to its TV platform, aimed at enhancing the user experience by simplifying content discovery. The telecoms company confirmed the upcoming changes through a blog post, highlighting the transition to a more visually-oriented search function.
Currently, Virgin Media offers a conventional list view for content browsing, but the forthcoming update will showcase vibrant images instead. The company stated, “We’re implementing useful enhancements to the search functionality on our Stream box and Virgin TV 360.”
Gone are the days of mundane search results resembling exam preparation. The text-based lists are being replaced with image results, streamlining the process of finding desired content quickly and efficiently. Whether users type their search queries or utilize the voice search feature, they will now be presented with visual tiles depicting relevant results.
The update is set to be automatically rolled out to devices including the 360 and Stream boxes without any manual intervention required from users. Virgin reassured, “No special actions are needed on your 360 or Stream boxes for this latest update to take effect. It will seamlessly occur at our end.”
This upgrade is poised to expedite content discovery for users, potentially reducing the time spent browsing through channels. Virgin’s search function allows users to search for specific shows, movies, genres, and even actors. By simply pressing the magnifying glass button on the remote and entering a few letters, users can leverage the Smart Search feature. Alternatively, speaking the show’s name into the remote’s microphone initiates the search process, with options appearing as users type or speak.
To maximize the search experience, users can try various commands with their remotes:
– Type or say “John Wick” to explore content related to the franchise.
– Explore “feel-good movies” by typing or speaking the phrase.
– Search for “reality TV” content easily.
– Find out about “live sports tonight” with a simple search command.
Virgin Media’s revamped search function aims to enhance user engagement and streamline content discovery, catering to a more visually immersive and efficient browsing experience.
