Vogue Williams has recently opened up about her decision not to adopt Spencer Matthews’ surname during their lengthy marriage, addressing ongoing rumors about their relationship. The 40-year-old Irish model and television personality, currently expecting their fourth child, candidly discussed the continuous requests from her husband, a former star of “Made in Chelsea,” for her to change her name to Matthews.
“Spenny always urges me to become Matthews, but I feel hesitant given the complexities of name changes,” Vogue shared. Reflecting on her past marriage to Brian McFadden, a member of Westlife, from 2012 to 2017, she expressed the challenges she faced when reverting her name post-divorce.
Expressing her attachment to her birth name, Vogue Williams, she acknowledged Spencer’s perspective, noting that she legally bears the surname Wilson from her stepfather Neil Wilson, whom her mother married during her teenage years. Vogue clarified, “I am legally Wilson, but I use Williams since that was my name at birth.”
Vogue transitioned to the surname Wilson at the age of 17 following her mother’s marriage to Neil Wilson after her biological father’s passing in 2010. Despite her fondness for her current name, she revealed that her children with Spencer – Theodore, Gigi, and Otto – carry the Matthews surname.
The couple first connected while filming “The Jump” for Channel 4 in Austria in January 2017. Initially skeptical of Spencer due to his reputation from “Made in Chelsea,” Vogue soon found herself drawn to him, leading to their engagement during a performance of “The Lion King” in February 2018 and a wedding at the Glen Affric Estate in Scotland that June.
Their nuptials quickly followed Vogue’s divorce from Brian, a period she described as deeply distressing and marked by self-doubt about her future. Vogue has openly shared her reflections on the challenges she faced after her first marriage ended, emphasizing her emotional journey towards finding happiness and starting a family with Spencer.
