A woman accused of murdering her 18-day-old baby, who tragically fell from a residential building, was observed waving in court. Zahira Byjaouane, aged 43, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court where she refrained from entering a plea. She simply confirmed her personal details during the brief court session.

Byjaouane gestured to her supporters in the audience as she entered and exited the courtroom. The severity of the case necessitated it to be transferred to the Old Bailey, where she is scheduled to appear later this week.

Judge John Zani informed her that the case would be handled at the Central Criminal Court due to the gravity of the charges, with the next hearing set for March 18. The judge clarified that due to the nature of the allegations, bail was not an option.

According to Byjaouane’s LinkedIn profile, she previously worked as a clinical coordinator at a Harley Street clinic, with prior experience at several London hospitals. The incident involving the infant’s fall was reported by the Metropolitan Police, who responded to the scene in Westminster.

Tragically, the baby girl passed away in the hospital following the fall. Forensic teams were visible at the location later on, and a small memorial including flowers and a toy were placed near the Peabody Estate building, where the incident occurred.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of the Met Police expressed the tragic nature of the infant’s death, mentioning that investigations were ongoing. She appealed for anyone with relevant information to come forward, indicating that initial findings suggested the incident took place within a domestic setting.
