A woman has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for fabricating allegations of rape against 10 men whom she had met on dating apps. Stacy Sharples, aged 31, admitted to falsely accusing the men, resulting in their unjust detention and prolonged legal uncertainty. Despite her deceitful actions, Sharples gloated to one victim about evading consequences, only to later plead guilty to perverting the course of justice in court.

The Honorary Recorder for Bolton, Judge Nicholas Clarke KC, condemned Sharples for subjecting the innocent men to unwarranted stigma and distress within their communities and online. While acknowledging Sharples’ mental health struggles and low IQ, Judge Clarke emphasized the severe harm inflicted on both the falsely accused individuals and genuine victims seeking justice through the legal system.

The court heard that Sharples’ deceitful claims incurred an estimated cost of £120,000 to the public due to wasted police, legal, and medical resources. One incident involved Sharples falsely accusing Reece Lockett of rape after a consensual encounter, leading to his unwarranted arrest. Similarly, Sharples fabricated allegations against other men, including James Blundell, Astron Inman, Andrew Dearden, Anthony Green, Andrew Jackson, and Jack Byrne, causing significant distress and legal complications for each individual.

Despite Sharples’ attempts to evade accountability and justify her actions by citing personal struggles, the court recognized her as a sexual predator who diverted crucial resources away from genuine victims of crime. Detective Sergeant Steven Gilliland emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating all allegations, affirming the commitment to upholding justice for legitimate victims while holding perpetrators of false accusations accountable.
