“Yellow Alert: Severe Storms Threaten Waterloo-Guelph Area”

Published on

Environment Canada has issued a yellow alert for severe thunderstorms in the Waterloo region, Guelph, and nearby areas, forecasting heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday afternoon. The alert cautions that wind gusts could reach speeds of up to 90 km/h, with the potential for hail the size of a toonie. These weather conditions are anticipated to persist through the early evening, with the possibility of local utility disruptions and damage to structures like roofs, fences, branches, and temporary shelters. It is crucial for individuals to remain indoors upon hearing thunder to avoid the dangers of lightning, which can be fatal or cause harm. Emergency Management Ontario advises taking immediate shelter if threatening weather is approaching.
