The tragic incident left him in a vegetative state for nine years. Giovanni Battista Maestri, the father of the deceased teenager, announced the sorrowful news of his son’s demise. He expressed gratitude for the support during this difficult time. Mattia ingested a piece of ‘Due Laghi’ cheese, produced from raw milk in Trentino, at the age of four. The father alleges that errors in the milk collection process caused the contamination.

Mattia developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a severe condition linked to E.coli, leading to the breakdown of red blood cells and potential blood clot formation affecting vital organs, including the brain. He eventually entered an irreversible vegetative state, enduring numerous health complications.

Legal action resulted in two individuals from the dairy being convicted of causing harm.
