An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 jolted one of the world’s oldest cities, waking locals from their sleep in the middle of the night. The Egyptian capital, Cairo, experienced the tremor shortly after 3 am local time, with the epicenter located in Suez, just 25 miles from the city center. The German Research Centre for Geosciences revised the magnitude to 5.4, noting that the quake struck at a depth of six miles.
