An elderly British man tragically passed away when his vehicle caught fire in Cyprus. The incident occurred in Avgorou, a region in the southwest of the country, after the car became stuck in mud.
The 88-year-old driver, accompanied by his dog and a caregiver, was en route to an animal shelter but took a wrong turn onto a dirt road. While trying to free the vehicle, sparks from the car ignited dry reeds nearby, leading to a fire that quickly engulfed the car on Saturday.
Although the caregiver managed to escape and urged the man to flee, he insisted she seek help. After the fire was extinguished, the man’s body was discovered next to the vehicle, indicating he had attempted to escape the flames. Tragically, the man’s dog also perished in the blaze.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the man died from burns. The man resided in Pachna, a village in southern Cyprus, as reported by Cyprus Mail.
