The upcoming Bank Holiday weekend is set to experience scorching temperatures, with the Met Office predicting a heatwave reaching 33C. The national weather agency anticipates a significant surge in temperatures starting from Friday, particularly in southern regions, possibly hitting 30C on Saturday, 32C on Sunday, and peaking at 33C on Monday. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steve Kocher mentioned that the UK may break its May and Spring temperature records over the holiday weekend, with the current record standing at 32.8C.

This weekend’s expected weather conditions will officially mark a heatwave, defined by three consecutive days of temperatures exceeding the heatwave threshold, ranging from 25C to 28C across different counties. The Met Office forecasts heatwave conditions to manifest in the south-east on Sunday before spreading to central and western England and parts of Wales.

Weather maps support these predictions, showing temperature anomaly maps indicating areas where temperatures will rise significantly above the seasonal average. Maximum temperature maps suggest that as many as 21 counties could see temperatures soar to 30C or higher on Monday.
