A woman has been taken into custody in connection with the suspected killing of a six-year-old boy named Kyran Durnin. Kyran, who was last seen alive in June 2022 and reported missing in August 2024, triggered an investigation that has now transitioned into a murder inquiry.
Authorities have apprehended a woman in her 50s as part of the ongoing probe, leading to a search at a residence in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. The woman is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a facility in the eastern region.
This development follows shortly after what would have been Kyran’s 10th birthday. The Irish Mirror revealed that the arrested woman had a known association with Kyran.
Gardaí released a statement confirming the arrest, stating that the woman is being held in connection with the disappearance and death of Kyran Durnin. Investigations are currently underway, with a search being conducted at a residence in Drogheda, Co. Louth.
The case of Kyran’s disappearance turned into a murder investigation in October 2025, with previous arrests related to the case, including the death of a man connected to the suspected murder. The child’s last known whereabouts date back to June 2022, and there are suspicions that he may have passed away during that time.
