An infant just eight days old was swiftly transported to a medical facility following a vehicular accident that resulted in a car overturning in Gloucestershire. The incident occurred when a Peugeot 308 collided with the barrier on the nearside between junctions 1 and 2 of the M50 at approximately 6:15 am on Monday. Subsequently, a 37-year-old female driver was apprehended on suspicion of operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after an inquiry by law enforcement.
The woman driving the car, believed to be in her thirties, was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment, while the newborn infant was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for medical care.
Drivers experienced significant delays as accident recovery and police investigations took place, according to Gloucestershire Live. One lane of the eastbound M50 remains closed for barrier repairs. Traffic came to a standstill for several hours as emergency responders managed the situation.
Authorities are now seeking witnesses to the incident. A representative from West Mercia Police urged individuals with any information or dashcam recordings of the events leading up to the collision to contact PC Pickering via email at paul.pickering@westmercia.police.uk.
