Metallica has made a unique request to their fans to donate blood ahead of their upcoming UK tour, marking a first-time collaboration between the band and the NHS. The heavy metal band’s spokesperson expressed their desire to give back to the communities welcoming them on tour, citing successful partnerships with blood services in the United States and Australia.

Following their collaborations with the American Red Cross and Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, where they encouraged blood donations resulting in over 25,000 and 40,000 donations respectively, Metallica is now focusing on the UK leg of their tour. The band is scheduled to perform in Glasgow, Cardiff, and London in June and July.

The spokesperson emphasized the band’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond their music, urging fans to participate in blood donation efforts. The Welsh Blood Service spokesperson highlighted the significance of this partnership in raising awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations and saving lives.

Moreover, the director of blood supply for NHS Blood and Transplant commended Metallica for leveraging their global fan base to encourage regular blood donations, especially as certain blood types are currently at ‘pre-amber’ status in the UK.
